Acne & Acne Scarring

Causes of Acne

Acne is caused by a buildup of dirt, oil, bacteria and other substances such as dead skin cells, some acne is also caused by hormonal changes such as puberty, pregnancy, menopause and hormonal birth control. Hormone fluctuations trigger these acne cases by stimulating the production of additional sebum in the oil glands. This can end up blocking the follicle, which can then lead to bacteria growth. This bacterium causes the follicle to become inflamed and subsequently break out. Some people also develop acne as a side effect of some common medicines like steroids and anti-convulsant. People who have food sensitivities may even suffer from acne as a reaction to certain foods.

4 GRADES OF ACNE

There are four grades of acne.  It appears on the face, chest, arms, neck, back and legs.

GRADE 1:

Comedones – This milder form of acne presents as opened comedones (blackheads) and closed comedones (whiteheads). Follicle / pores clogged with oils, debris from the products/environment.

GRADE 2:

Papules – Another moderate form of acne. Raised, red papules are caused by follicle / pores clogged with oils or bacteria, which become inflamed. Like comedones, they can appear on various bodily areas, but they do not contain pus.

GRADE 3:

Pustules – Moderate, pus-filled acne is caused when a hair follicle becomes clogged and infected with bacteria, dead cells and a surplus of the oils normally produced by your skin.

GRADE 4:

Cysts or nodules – The most severe form of acne, sometimes develops when papules or pustules become aggravated. These large, soft, sub-surface lesions can also be painful. If hard discs also appear beneath the skin, nodulocystic acne occurs. This in turn increases the level of pain and the risk of scarring.

It is important to refrain from trying to scratch, squeeze, or ‘pop’ your acne – this might worsen the infection and produce scarring. It is also important to remember that acne often isn’t one’s ‘fault,’ as it’s usually a genetic condition. It is always easier to stop the acne problem at the GRADE 1 stage before it gets worse. The goal in treat Acne is removing the dead skin on the surface of the skin to prevent of blocking of the health oil secrete out form the follicle. Second, reduces active acne inflammation by increasing subcutaneous shedding through the reduction of oil production and at time same time kill the acne bacteria.
